Celebrating Creativity Across Generations

At 94 years old, Renee Lipson continues to demonstrate how art has the power to draw people together, transcending age, time, and differences. Renee (pronounced Ree-nee) has shown a lifelong dedication to creativity and educational pursuit. She has earned two master’s degrees, spent years as a real estate agent, and tenaciously cultivated her passion for creativity by participating in art classes offered through her local libraries. Through her art work, Renee reminds us that art is a universal language, connecting generations and diverse communities. In each stroke of her watercolor brush, we see the shared human experience—our hopes, challenges, and dreams. Even at an advanced age, Renee shows us that creativity knows no boundaries, continuing to unite us in ways words sometimes cannot.
Renee Lipson’s artwork will be on display at the Barrington Public Library from October 1, 2024, through November 30, 2024. This exhibit will include Renee’s original watercolor paintings that span a diverse subject range: floral arrangements, local landscapes, and portraits.
Giving Back: A Circle of Community Support
All of Renee’s artwork will be available for purchase and she is generously donating 50% of all sales to support The Friends of the Barrington Public Library in their on-going support of Barrington Public Library services.
Thus, the circle of community engagement continues. Grateful for the art instruction she has received through local library programs, Renee is sowing seeds that will make even more art instruction possible for the next eager participants.
Art as a Unifying Force

Art weaves a community together as a thread connecting people through shared
experiences, emotions, and ideas. The Barrington Library’s art programs enhance both individual personal development and community social engagement by offering:
Accessibility to Art: Libraries are free and open to the public, making art programs more accessible to a broader audience, including those who may not have access to galleries or private art spaces.
Creativity and Self-Expression: These programs provide a space for people of all ages to explore their creativity, express themselves artistically, and engage in hands-on activities that can promote mental and emotional well-being.
Lifelong Learning: Libraries are hubs of knowledge, and art programs complement this mission by encouraging lifelong learning. Participants can develop new skills, learn about different art forms, and explore various techniques in a supportive environment.
The Friends of the Barrington Public Library will hold a “Meet the Artist” event on Sunday, November 17, 2024, from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm. This will be held on the final day of our Annual Fall Book Sale. Please plan to join us! You will be able to meet Renee Lipson and hear her remarkable life story. We will also have a free drawing for two of Renee’s paintings at this event.

Art as a Pathway to Community Growth
Our community circle via art is more than just creative expression - it is a tool for building a stronger, more cohesive, and empathetic community. The Friends of the Barrington Public Library supports our Barrington Library because it serves as a bridge where individuals come together, find common ground, and grow as a community. Art is one of the many pathways to this destination.
