What We Do

The Friends of the Library fund more than 88% of the outstanding programming offered at our library

  • Speaker Series

  • Film Screenings

  • Art Workshops

  • Museum Pass Program (See link at bottom of page)

  • Library of Things

  • Makerspace Studio

  • Online subscription to The Providence Journal

  • Express Books

  • eZone ebooks, audiobooks & more

  • Annual Events such as the popular Peep Diorama Contest

  • "Book Pages" program

And it’s all made possible by you, our generous community support.

Largely through book sale purchases, in addition to membership dues, and donations,  we fund a wide range of educational, cultural, and creative initiatives that enrich lives and bring people together.

Beyond programming, the Friends award an annual High School Scholarship and have contributed to Library capital building campaigns - $30,000 for the Friends Conference Room, $25,000 for the Children's Room, and $25,000 for the main library update.

Whether you're exploring new ideas or connecting with neighbors, the Friends help make it possible.

Friends of the Barrington Public Library Scholarship

Established in 2020, the Friends of the Barrington Public Library proudly award a $500 scholarship each year to a graduating Barrington High School senior. This Scholarship reflects our commitment to supporting Barrington’s students as they take their next steps in learning and discovery.

The scholarship is administered through Barrington High School, and applications are distributed each spring. Applicants submit a 250–500 word essay describing the impact the Barrington Public Library has had on their life.

The Friends reserve the right to publish the winning essay and a photograph of the recipient as part of our ongoing efforts to support and celebrate the library.
