Participation Helps Our Library Thrive

Updated: Oct 28

More Than Books: Community Participation is the Heartbeat of the Library

The Barrington Public Library is more than a building filled with books — it is

the heartbeat of our community.

:Every program, event, and service it offers is designed to enrich lives, spark curiosity, and strengthen our shared connections. But behind every successful program is something just as essential: community participation.

When you attend a library event, join a workshop, or bring a friend to Story

Time, you are doing more than taking part — you are investing in the future

of our library and our town. Your presence sends a powerful message: our

library matters.

Small Acts, Big Impact

Even small acts make an enormous difference. Tell a neighbor about an

upcoming lecture. Invite a friend to join you for an art activity. Share your

favorite library service on social media. Every conversation and every

invitation helps the library grow stronger.

The Museum Pass Program - A Family Adventure with Barry!

ree

The Johnston family recently showed just how easy — and fun — it is to engage with the library. They used the Barrington Public Library’s Museum Pass Program to enjoy a day at the RISD Museum of Art. Their adventure was even more memorable because they brought along Barry, the library’s

new Museum Pass Buddy, who comes with a red drawstring bag, an Adventure Log, and a lot of enthusiasm for learning!

The Museum Pass Program, supported by the Friends of the Barrington

Public Library, makes cultural experiences more accessible for local

families. Whether you’re visiting a museum, zoo, or historic site, programs like this help create lasting memories and deepen community connections.

Meet the Friends of the Library

A vital part of this support system is the Friends of the Barrington Public Library. This volunteer-led organization funds over 88% of the library’s programs through book sales and memberships. From children's story times to adult lectures and museum passes, the Friends’ support keeps opportunities accessible to all.

The Friends do more than raise funds — they inspire a spirit of community pride. Every membership, every donated book, and every hour volunteered helps fuel the library’s ability to innovate and serve.

You Can Help

Supporting the Friends is one of the easiest and most powerful ways you can help. Become a member, shop the ongoing book sale, donate gently used books, or volunteer your time. Every small action adds up to a stronger, more vibrant library for everyone.

Libraries thrive when their communities do. When you show up, you inspire others to do the same. Let’s keep the momentum going. Visit. Participate.

Support. Share.

Together, we can ensure the Barrington Public Library continues to be a powerful source of inspiration, opportunity, and community pride — today and for generations to come.
